Ninja Bricks

"A great first submission"

submission: Ninja Bricks
date: December 14, 2009

The game is excellent for your first submission but as a flash in general it is slightly lacking.

To begin, the 5th level is simply way too hard for some players. The level is supremely easy right up until the last enemy, who took me 6 tries to best. The fact that he can move faster then you when flustered makes the game devolve into complete and total luck: you just have to hope that he doesn't dodge the ball with his super speed.

Many people will probably have to sacrifice a few retries to beat this level, and the payoff is terrible. a boss that cannot be beaten. Putting a giant, "Final" button on it is even more taunting- a better name for it would be, "Pointless distraction while we shove credits in your face."

I was looking forward to a fun boss battle, too, which is a shame.

Author's Response:

I agree with you, that many people had that expectation of a final battle, and instead they got the meaning of the game explained. For some people it worked, for others don't. It is something I`ll be more careful in the future, handling expectations is very important.

Blind Swordsman

"not too good...."

submission: Blind Swordsman
date: December 8, 2009

The gameplay was literally as simple as moving a cursor around the screem mindlessly, with the only skill that could be invlved beng ruined by one large blemish: the stamina never depletes. The game is rediculously easy and doesn't require much skill to complete, and the levels all feel the same. There's now way t turn off the annoying audio, either.

Overall, I didn't enjoy this game very much.

Level Up!

"good game..."

submission: Level Up!
date: November 26, 2009

the game is good, but it is plauged by one problem: the nightmare stages. This is a game about leveling, and the joy of leveling games such as this, is that even the most terrible players can conquer it with dedication. It's really fun building up your skills and watching your character grow, and I commend the game for this.

But then the nightmare stages suddenly make me a sad panda. For one thing: I don't see a point at all to them. they aren't too much fun, considering you basically dodge attacks, waiting for the enemy AI to screw up, and then when he finally does you collect a few gems. It really isn't too much of a fun boss battle, and it's very dependant on luck. An attack button would have been nice.

but this by far isn't my largest problem. If you lose the stages, all of your levels are RESET! This is just completely stupid. the purpose of a leveling game is to make players feel like they are always advancing towards something. If you suddenly say, "Screw you, I don't care if you just spent the last 20 minutes building up your fortitude and healing! Quick, beat this boss or the entire last 20 minutes of your life are wased!", then there's no advancing whatsoever when you may be seconds away from losing everything you've worked for.

You said you were inspired by upgrade complete: imagine if in upgrade complete, after completing a random amount of stages you would encounter a,"Boss stage", and if you failed at the boss stage, all of the upgrades you have obtained AND all of your money is suddenly taken from you. I don't think that would be fun at all.

the game is excellent, but I think there should never be a leveing game in which your character's level can be reduced. It's extremely frustrating.

Classic Arcade-Aliens

"Alright"

date: August 12, 2009

The game is alright, but I can't play for very long without getting bored. There is no ranking system, levels, or objective, so there isn't much to strive for. The enemies don't fly onto the screen, they just randomly appear, and you can only have one enemy on screen at a time. The difficulty never increases, and getting the world record in this game is more a matter of patience than skill.

There aren't any powerups to collect, either, so the gameplay is always the same. There isn't any sort of title screen, either.

The game just isn't too good. Although for a first attempt at flash, it is a great first game. Good job on making your first game a good one, just keep in mind my ideas for future installments

Thank you for being honest, and SOMETHING to strive for is to beat 52, thats my score!

Agony: The Portal

"variety?"

submission: Agony: The Portal
date: August 10, 2009

The game's base mechanics are good, but the game sufers because it lacks variety in any department.

Variety in the weapons? No, you are stuck with flails that all control the same. Variety in enemies? The only enemies are small, knee-high little anklebiters, and the only variety appears in the bosses' guards, which hould have been outside of boss levels.

Variety in bosses? No, just the same guys repeated over a over again, but with slightly different looks. Variety in gameplay? Nope, just kill everything. Variety in the environment? No, just the same old environment with a new skin, and nothing more.

The game became mind-numbingly boring when I realised that there was nothing new to look forward to. A new boss, a new environment, a new gameplay change or edition, a new type of enemy, a new weapon? Nothing seemed to reward me for pumping my time into the game. I could accept a shameless plug and pay you all money, but even that would only provide me with a few new things to make this already rediculously easy game even easier.

Next time, shorten a game if you don't have anything new to add to it.

Sky-High Ride

"Alright"

submission: Sky-High Ride
date: August 7, 2009

The game has nice controls and a nice concept, but it does suck that once the fatigue meter maxes out you are forced to watch your character slowly breathe his way back to an empty meter.

Also, with no way to restart the game, and no speceific leaderboards or rankings for points, the game really doesn't have much of an objective or incentive.

Combat Cards

"No."

submission: Combat Cards
date: August 5, 2009

The game contains no strategy or action. You click, "Draw card" and hope yours is better. There is no gameplay involved other than clicking on a single button, and no real objectives to strive for. The graphics are almost non-existent, and there isn't any AI for a single player game.

All in all, it is barely even a game.

Crumbled 2

"Unoriginal"

submission: Crumbled 2
date: August 5, 2009

The game's concept isn't very original, because I'm starting to see these, "Draws your own path" kind of games everywhere, meaning that this game is one of many. This makes the novelty non-existent from the get-go, and the game adds nothing to the formula.

You can also draw over every object in the game easily, making the game have no point or challenge. Playing through this is just completely boring, there is no challenge at all, so there is no reward for overcoming the obstacles.

August 5, 2009

Author's Response:

Please see: Crumbled 1
When I made this there was hardly any "Draw your own path" games. This is the squeal. I can't help that the genre has become more popular. This game was pretty much finished a year ago, but here it is now, 100% finished.

"Not very good"

date: August 5, 2009

The target has no interesting or dynamic reactions upon being hit, the objective is simple and easy, and since there are no rankings or levels there is really no incentive to even play.

The game also lacks leaderboards, and the graphics are terrible, but the game is only 60 seconds long with no reason for me to play again, so what is the point?

Train Shooters

"Not very good"

submission: Train Shooters
date: July 31, 2009

The graphics look like they were drawn in microsoft paint by an average Joe, and the animations were almost non-existent. There was the train moving, the bullets moving, and that was it.

The enemies (which all looked like nothing other than small dots), never moved and never had any variety. You can earn money to buy health upgrades (And nothing else), but there is no penalty for losing health, so there seems to be no point in getting the upgrades.

All of the levels are identical, and since there are no large upgrades or future leve to strive for, I really don't see the point of the game.
